2012 Fall Market- NEW fabrics

This fabric is hot from Fall Quilt Market. We saw it at EE Schencks in September and had to order some for the shop.  The 3 prints are Maywood fabric from Jan Douglas called "Love Flows". The creamy solid is Shadow Play by Maywood. OOOH, the possibilities!
Here it is shown with some other possible fabrics combinations.
The Dark green on the right is Jennifer Chiaverini's "Rosa's Collection" for Red Rooster.
This print is available in a deep Purple tone at Thread and Bolts.

Design Wall Monday- November 5, 2012

Two of the Baby quilts made with this panel are on the Long Arm. The backing for these two will be the same so it is easy to quilt them at the same time.

The Christmas Celebrations class had the last session on Halloween. Many of the ladies got at least one of their wedges complete.  Here is mine.
I have changed my focus fabric again. I got one of the wedges done and didn't like the solid piece of fabric in the area directly under the 1st row curved Flying geese from the center.

Here are two of the fabric options I tried.  Jerry and Mary C both weighed in on the decision making process.  Then I had an idea to mimic the striped pieced from above the 1st row of Flying geese and came up with these fabric choices.  What do you think???  I may have to call and order more fabric from the GLITTER website I bought the fabrics from to make the placemats I wanted to make to match this table cover. :)

Design Wall Monday- October 29, 2012

I had a lady come into the Shop who requested that I make some baby quilts. I showed her the Panels I have that make up very quick and she chose fabrics to add to it that suited her liking. That means that on my DESIGN WALL are 3 versions of the same quilt using this Nursery Prayer Panel. When I make three Baby quilts I can line them up on the Long Arm and quilt them all at the same time as long as the backing is the same.  There is one with a Navy and small Yellow pinstripe for the sashing between the small blocks in the border. A second with a matching green, a third with red.  (you can click the pictures to make them bigger) Which one do you think looks best?   The outer borders aren't cut for these at this point.  The color of the sashing will also be a 3" outer border. Thanks for stopping by.  With Christmas coming I'm suddenly very busy.

2012 Fall Blogger's Quilt Festival

Bears in the Forrest

The pattern comes from Evelyn Sloppy's book "Log Cabin Fever".  The pattern name is "Bears Need Homes, Too". Over 100 different fabrics were used in the Log Cabin and Bear Paw Blocks. Some pieces are only in the quilt once.  Many of the fabrics came from Alice's Stash. There was a lot of drawing on the back of the light fabric- sewing and making HST's. Much of it was completed in the 2 weeks after my mother passed away. It was a great way to control the feelings I was having at the time.  Quilting is a great stress reliever for me.

The Log Cabin block pieces were cut with Marti Michell's 1"-2" Log cabin ruler. Placing them in order into a box made the stitching much easier.
I had to only show bits and pieces on the Blog and Facebook so it would be a surprise.

Detail of the quilting and the corner shown in these close-ups. (you can click on them to make them bigger).  I love how the thread plays peek-a-boo as it goes in the Feather Ramble design. Quilted with 20 weight Egyptian Cotton variegated thread.

This quilt was commissioned by Jerry's sister, Glenda.  She requested a quilt pattern that was worked on by her Mother Alice from when she sewed with Me.  This was the very last Quilt Pattern her Mother; Alice made and finished that I know of.  Over the weekend I found out where the quilt Alice made (like this one) is now and was able to share the story with Glenda and Gloria- who owns the quilt Alice made. It was very nice to know also where that quilt was.  So much of quilt history is lost as the quilts go from generation to generation. It was fun and important for me to rescue this piece of quilt history for the Wilson family! Now this quilt of Glenda's has a great story too.  I named my version of the quilt "Bears in the Forrest" to go with the Theme at EE Schenck's Fall Trends Trade Show.  It was the People's Choice winner there.

   Quilt Stats for the BQF:

Finished quilt measures :105" x 105"
Special techniques used : Marti Michell template for Log Cabins
Quilted by : Self on APQS with Side Saddle (Computer Driven)
Best Category : Scrappy Category

Design Wall Monday- October 21, 2012

Last week after Design Wall Monday this quilt was posted HERE.  It is just getting started.   Some Progress has been made. This is a Judy Niemeyer pattern called "Christmas Celebrations".
It takes almost an hour to do one of the Curved Flying Geese sections.  The next class is on Halloween.
My Colors at Christmas are Silver and Blue. Blue is also my favorite color.  This will be fun to have done in time for Christmas, only 64 days left to go.

Check out the many Design Walls this Monday HERE.

We hope to see more finishes in the next few months.
Here are Mary's October Blocks.

The Judy Niemeyer Class Project of  "Christmas Celebrations" has started and there are patterns still available in the shop.  The next class is October 31st. Jerrine Kirsch is the Certified Instructor for this class.
Here is Lynn's in progress.  She is using frosty blues and silver for her Tree skirt/table topper.
A New Collection of fabrics from Kona Bay came in last week  "Butterfly Carnival". So pretty with the coordinating fabrics.
Just give Lynn a call and she will open the shop for you to come and see.

Design Wall Monday- October 15, 2012

The quilt for Clayton's Birthday finally got on the frame and quilted.   Mary C came out and got pictures of it so we could post on DWM this week.

It was so fun to use the Go Acuquilt Cutter to add the words to the borders.   Seattle Seahawks is on two sides.  The top and bottom say his name and Super Fan.  Clayton turned 30 this year.  He loves the "Seahawks"!  He hasn't seen his quilt just yet. Lynn will show it off at Guild in November first.
Made with the Disappearing 9-Patch pattern and Quilted with the Square Doodles.
