Design Wall Monday- September 24, 2012

This is Lynn's "Easy Does It" Quilt on the Design Wall at Thread and Bolts.  It is made from the Midnight Garden line of fabrics.  There are a few  more Kits available to make this fun quilt.
There are two more seams to finish this quilt top.  Watch the Blog to see what fun Quilting Design is used to finish this quilt.

The Farmer's Wife Quilt that was on last weeks DWM is still on the Big Wall at Thread and Bolts.  Getting closer to being finished as well.

Design Wall Monday September 17, 2012

There was more progress made on the Farmer's Wife Quilt.  Sewing the cornerstone and 2 sashings on each block like this makes it EASY to assemble. Tuesday and Wednesday are the Farmer's Wife Days at Thread and Bolts.  Won't they be surprised to see this hanging on the wall in the shop?!!
Only two more months of this class.

We will start a new Block of the Month in January.  Maybe TWO Blocks of the Month.  12" blocks this time.   There are new Marti Michell Blocks of the Month ready to go.  Using the same Templates we already have from making the Farmer's Wife.

Below is the D9P made from the 3.5" Y2K Swaps with Orange as the constant. This Quilt is for Michelle.
Kimmy and Tammi sorted them and matched them up when we were still sewing in the basement 6 years or so ago.  The quilt top was found when she was searching for the BOX of "Bears Need Homes, Too" fabrics a few weeks ago.  A couple of borders and it will be ready for Quilting.  It looks good on the Long Arm.

You can Link up with Judy Laquidara HERE. Lots to see on Design Wall Monday.

More Fall Trends- September 2012

This is Lynn seeing her quilt up in the Warehouse at EE Schencks and realizing it has her Lucky Number on it.  Note the T-Shirt has Thread and Bolts LOGO on it.  Tara at Copier Specialists enlarged and printed them for us to wear at Trends.  The front has Thread and Bolts and our Name on it.  We can be walking talking advertisements now for Lynn's Quilt Shop. The Pink tote bag has the LOGO Embroidered on it.

EE Schencks outdid themselves and had multiple Guest Speakers and Notable Quilters who did the Take and Teach Demos.  I think we asked for more Guests on our Surveys last Spring.

Friday Night was Jean Wells from "The Stitching Post" Quilt Shop in Sister's Oregon. 36 Copies of her new Book "Journey to Inspired Art Quilting" were given out to Shop owners and EE Schencks customers after she showed us her many quilts and talked about how she started her Quilt shop and what Inspires her quilts.  Lynn has one of those Books and it is Autographed too! Jean does "Art" type Quilts.

This is Jerry Stube of "Quilter's Quarters" in Leavenworth, Kansas.  She talked about Blocks of the Month Programs and making them work.  She runs several in a years time, something for everyone.  Jerry made us laugh with her Southern accent.
It is great to rub shoulders with these amazing ladies who come to share their passion with us.
Also there were Marsha McCloskey, Jan Douglas, and Patricia Pepe. Just to name a few.
New backing were brought home as well as more 45" bolts of pretty fabrics. Come on over and see the New Merchandise!  Kona Bay "Butterfly Carnival" fabrics are coming in the next two months.  Just in time for your Christmas Giving.

Design Wall Monday September 10-2012

Lynn said, "Oops, I did it again"... when we were on our way home from Trends. This is her 3rd time to win the People Choice at Trends!!! The first time was her Bear Quilt, (Pre- Blog) in 2008, the 2nd time was her Sylvia's Bridal Sampler in 2010, Blogged about HERE. The Link to see all of the Quilts entered is HERE.

2012 Fall Trends People's Choice Winner
It's time to show it off now that her Sister in Law, Glenda has seen it.  She is pictured here at the EE Schencks Warehouse for the Fall Trends Trade Show.  Mary C Blogged more about Trends HERE.   It's been hard to not show more on the Blog.  It was shown at Guild last month since we figured it wouldn't be here for the September Guild Meeting.  Lynn almost didn't send this quilt in for the Trends Contest.  I, Mary C had to go out and help her finish getting quilts ready and take them to the UPS to be sent off, albeit 3 days late. She named it "Bears in the Forest" to go with the Trends Theme. When we arrived and our quilts were the final 3 that were entered, numbered 9, 10 and 11. She took that as a Good Luck Omen.  Her Birthday is on September 11th and it's her favorite Lucky Number.  She always says--- "something good happened on that date, too!"

This quilt was commissioned by her Husband's sister, Glenda.  She requested that it be a quilt that was worked on by her Mother Alice with Lynn.  This was the very last Quilt Pattern Alice made and finished that Lynn knew of.  Over the weekend Lynn  found out where the quilt Alice made(like this one) is now and was able to share the story with Glenda and her other Sister in Law, Gloria: who owns the quilt Alice made. It was nice for Lynn to know also where that quilt was.  Now this quilt of Glenda's has a great story too.  So much of quilt history is lost as the quilts go from generation to generation it was fun and important to rescue this piece of quilt history for the Wilson family!

Here is a picture of the quilt outside before it was sent to EE-Schencks. TA-DA!
A couple of Close-ups of the Quilting..."Feather Ramble"

Thanks for coming to look at the Thread and Bolts Blog.  You can click on the link HERE to see more Design Wall Monday Posts. Kindly leave your comments. There is more to this story...stay tuned.

Design Wall - a bit later than Monday

Monday was a holiday so No group sewing happened at Thread and Bolts!  Tuesday the Photographer/Blogger; Mary C came out and we took the first Picture auditioning the sashing and cornerstones for the Scrappy Farmer's Wife Quilt. That was going to be the Monday Posting. I've sewn all the blocks from the Scrap bin.

I cut the Sashing and cornerstones at 2" to make my quilt bigger.  (I need a King size).  By sewing the sashings on with a cornerstone it is easy to lay the quilt out on the Design Wall.   The order doesn't matter and I have a few duplicates to make the quilt longer as well. I plan on an 8 x 8 row setting on-point. This arrangement could change.  I already see I need MORE BLUE in my Blocks!   The Setting triangles with be a white tone-on-tone and the outer border will be the same fabric as the Cornerstones.
The fun part was figuring out the orientation the blocks should be set.
Must have the birds all flying in the right direction, you know.  LOL
Mary C got to un-sew a few of hers while I got my sashings sewn on.  Next Farmer's Wife Group meets in two weeks.  Won't they all be surprised if my Farmer's Wife Quilt is up on the wall?
