July Farmer's Wife Groups -Blocks

It's the week of Farmer's Wife Classes at Thread and Bolts.
Mary C is ahead and has her July Blocks are all made.

With the ones cut out and made this week she has a total 82 of the 111 done.
Just a few more to cut out and the paper-pieced ones to finish. She figured out a few blocks that could be made with Templates instead of Paper-piecing.  That made her very happy!!!

From the Tuesday Evening Farmer's Wife Group
Audrey has almost 4 of the groups done.

We hear that one of the Wednesday Morning group has finished all the blocks and could have the sashings done.  Pictures to be added tomorrow.

Design Wall Monday July 16, 2012

This past week has been a very difficult one for me.  The saying goes that "Sewing Soothes the Soul".  With the passing of my Mother, I have done a LOT of sewing. I'm glad for friends who care and have come to offer condolences. I spent most of my week-end in the Quilt Studio and made enough of the Bear Paw Blocks and Log Cabin Blocks to finish the center of Glenda's Quilt. Staying busy is the best thing to do.
It took a bit to find the four Log Cabin blocks for the Center with no repeating fabrics.
The rest of these Log Cabin and Bear Paw Blocks will go in the final border.

The cutting of the off-center Log Cabin Blocks has begun, then the quilt can be put all together to be Quilted. I am amazed that in one week I've made so much Progress.  I'm liking the way the Log Cabin and Paw Blocks are looking. The shading from the variety of fabrics helps a lot for a scrappy look.

I'm linking up with Patchworktimes again this week. Click HERE to see more Design Wall Postings.

Design Wall Monday, July 10th, 2012

I know this is a day late.  But the new project had a slight delay.  There was a lot of cutting to get these small Log cabins made. They will be made into Bear Paw blocks.  This is the beginning of a Commissioned quilt for Glenda, my husband's sister.  She requested a quilt for herself using a pattern that I made with her mother, Alice.  It was a hard choice, but this quilt is talking to me saying, "MAKE ME"! It is a perfect quilt that combines Log cabin and Bear Paw blocks. The pattern is "Bears Need Homes, Too" from Evelyn Sloppy's book 'Log Cabin Fever'.  Glenda requested earth tones for her quilt.  My blue version of this last quilt we worked on is still in a box downstairs.

Last week's DWM quilt is now in the Longarm being quilted. I decided to go with the Green border and the Red stripe is on the back. It emptied a bolt with just enough to make him a matching pillowcase.
Thanks for your nice comments last week.

I'm using black thread on the back and white on the front.
The pattern being quilted is by Anne Bright called "Swirling B2B".

"Eye of the Tiger"

A Swap from back in 2008 with the Online Yahoo WASIQ (Washington State Internet Quilters)Group that I hosted from June to September.  Many of the 4-patches are in here, I had to make a few to fill in the colors in the corners.  This quilt will go to my Son when it is finished.  I'm calling it "Eye of the Tiger" because there is a 4-patch with a Face of a Tiger in the lower left corner.  The background fabric is KONA White. So many of my quilts go to Charity and Customers, it is nice to finish a UFO of my own once in a while. Today, the Center is finally together and I am auditioning for the borders. Please choose from one of the 3 fabrics pictured below.
1- Green
2- Red/Black Stripe
3- Green/Gold stripe

This is my first time to link up with Judy Laquidara's "Patchwork Times" Design Wall Monday Post.  Please Click HERE to see more Design Walls.  Please leave a comment and Vote for the Border you think is best.

Christmas Table Topper or Tree Skirt

Upcoming Class at Thread and Bolts

Taught by the Certified Instructor Jerrine Kirsch

Jerrine Kirsch lives in Washington State, but has been a quilting instructor for over 20 years and travels across the United States with various teaching engagements booked throughout the year.

As a Judy Niemeyer Quilting Certified Instructor, Jerrine is available for travel and can accomodate teaching events in any area of the US. She applied for the program as she is an avid fan of Judy's work and has taught the patterns she has completed in the past.

Her students have described her as a very patient instructor, and her ability to work with shops and guilds is exemplified by the number of repeat visits she makes to past clients. Her past experience working with other quilt designers has also given her experience and a broad knowledge base of pattern design, writing, and execution of quilt patterns. This type of knowledge gives her the ability to quickly break down Judy's instructions, explain them, and effectively recreate her patterns for instruction.

Jerrine will provide you with a unique experience for this class with class size limited to just six students per session.

Classes offered as follows and the Cost will be $60:

Daytime: September 26th and October 31st  from 10am to 3 pm

Evening September 26th and October 31st  from 5pm to 9 pm

Long time - No Blog

HELLO, has anybody missed seeing new stuff Here?  Did the Photographer go on strike?  NO, just life got in the way and the photos are still on the camera...
The Long Arm at Thread and Bolts has been BUSY!  A few of the quilts finished left without being Photographed- JULIE can you text pictures to me from your Phone???

Lynn took on the challenge of finishing this Vintage hand-pieced Double Wedding Ring Quilt for a customer.
It wasn't an easy fix however.  We brought the solid Blue home from Trends and she appliqued it to the edge by hand, manipulating the 4-patch points and Melon units to lay flat.  Then she added the outside Border on two sides and quilted it with 'Feathers".  As the label says the top was pieced by the Customer's Mother in 1960's and 1970's in Richland, Washington.  The Daughter wanted it finished and paid Lynn to do it for her 90 year old mother.  What a treasure it is now.  We are told that the Mother just cried when she saw it and hugged it, not wanting to let it out of her sight ever again.

Lynn took time out to Quilt one of her own UFO's...
This is a Slanted Star made of Hatchet Blocks from her Y2K Swap fabrics. No two corners are the same and it is KING SIZED to fit her bed! Quilted with a 'Simple Meander'.

Lynn proudly shared her Y2K Quilt with the Guild and Humbly accepted the Hearts and Flowers Quilt from Jan, our H & F committee Chair.  It's been nearly 6 years since the injury to Lynn's Shoulder. So this quilt is appreciated that much more.  Made in Lynn's favorite color- BLUE!

This Purple 9-Patch has been in the works for most of the year.  A gift for her son's caregiver.  He has admired the many crazy patched and scrappy quilts that he changes on a regular basis.  This one was made from the scrap bin and a lot of Purple.  It was Quilted with a free Pattern of Anne Brights' that came with the Side Saddle.

This is the center of a Hearts and Flowers quilt, Passed along to be finished by someone else in the H & F committee.

Rewind to 2 months ago.  That means you haven't seen the Farmer's wife Blocks from May or June.

Lynn's May FW Blocks                                                  Lynn's June FW Blocks

More fun at the Farmer Wife Classes

More of the ladies brought their finished blocks to class this week.  It just so happened that Mary was there to take pictures of Julie's quilts before she took them home.  She always has her camera ready and willing to take pictures. It's so much fun to see these blocks made up in all the different fabrics.   See Cindy's Vintage machine.  It was her Grandmother's Singer.  Lucky girl!  The fabric line Cindy is using is called "Cottage Romance".  Another lady joined the group today.  It's not too late to catch-up.  Come join the FUN!
The next photo is Laura's Blocks.  She has made a few of them twice to get the colors just right.  She is using her scrap bin and part of Lynn's scrap bin that she bought by the bag full.

And just to show the April Blocks made by Lynn (left) and Mary (right).

Keep up the great work ladies. We're almost 1/3 of the way done. The next class days are May 15 & 16.
