Design Wall Monday- August 27, 2012

It was time to open THE BOX!
Yes, That BOX, the one with my Dear Mother in Law's and my last project in it.
Funny that it still smells like her and brings back the good memories of sewing,
collecting and trading fabrics and patterns.
I'm making the Evelyn Sloppy Quilt "Bears Need Home, Too" again.  This time all in shades of Blue.
Here's the stack to be sewn into the claw parts of the Bear Paws.
I was drawing the line on the back of the lights when Mary C came out this morning.
Here are the pies of Creams and Whites with the pile of Blues next to it.
You can tell it is my favorite color.
More 108" backing arrived in the shop recently.
a Civil War print and nice Green and a 30's calico print.
These come with 18 yards on them so first come, first serve.
2.5 yards of the Blue is MINE!
We are linking up with Judy Laquidara again this week.  Click HERE, Please!

NEW and very pretty Quilting patterns

Julie H from Mesa has kept me busy with more pretty quilts.  We, Julie, her mom; Laura, Lynn and Mary C saw this quilt in the window at Sew n Vac last month after the July, Wednesday Farmer's wife class.  Julie said she had the book at home and the perfect fabric to make it.  She went home and whipped it up and brought it back for Heirloom quilting. The small picture shows the close-up of one of the blocks. A NEW Quilting Pattern at Thread and Bolts Quilting.

This quilt is made from Pink floral fabric that Julie bought in Thailand years ago.  They sell fabric by the meter there and she said it was only about $3/meter at the time. When she saw the Disappearing 9-Patch pattern she knew it would be just the one to use up this pretty fabric.  The smaller picture shows a close-up of the NEW "Forget-me-not" Panto pattern at Thread and Bolts.  Julie bought the backing fabric made by Red Rooster, the Aloha Fabric line by Jennifer Chiaverini.  It's a cheater Hawaiian quilting fabric.

There's lots more happening at Thread and Bolts.  Summer is almost over and the weather was beautiful outside for taking these pictures.  Thanks to the Wednesday FW ladies for holding them up so Mary C could take a few before Julie H took them home.  She is probably sleeping under the Toile one by now.

Design Wall Monday (on Tuesday) August 22, 2012

On the Big Design Wall at Thread and Bolts this week is our favorite Disappearing 9-Patch pattern made with a favorite Football team's LOGO on it.
There are 3 more blue borders to sew on then some Accucut Die Cut letters will be added to each side, top and bottom for my son Clayton. The lime green kicker Border is the same color as the eye of the Seahawk. Watch and see next week what I put on it with the ABC's letter.  He calls the team the "Hee-Hawks".  When I gave him the "Eye of the tiger" Quilt he asked why this one wasn't done yet.  We had just bought the fabric the day before.
Here's a close-up of the D9P Block.  I made the 'Seahawk' fabric go all around so it won't matter which angle you look at it from.

Go check out the Design Walls all over that linked up HERE.

New Backing Fabrics and Other Things

Here are three of the new Backing fabrics.   As of Close of business today there are 3 more coming in.  Hopefully they will include some 30's Backing Fabrics from Windam Fabrics.
Mary C - the Quiltingrandma Quilted this Lone Star Wednesday and Thursday.  She used some of the dark blue Backing.  The Quilting Pattern is "Swirls" by Debra Geissler.

My Daughter Tammy made this D9P quilt for a lucky young girl who likes Zebras.
This is a favorite pattern to make and Tammy admitted to learning how to attach Borders the easy way as instructed.  Cutting the Border to Length. Pinning the two ends and Center first, then adjusting to fit.  It works much better than just sewing and hoping it fits.

As a fun way to get our Exercise we got a Bicycle built for 2.  We try and get out to ride at least 2-3 times a week.  Thanks to Jerry's Daughter, Becky for finding it.  The helmets came with the Bike. Even if it is only a short ride while Michael is helping take care of Clayton.  Mary C just happened to have her camera on hand to snap these action shots today.
How's Your Summer??  The weather is FINE at Thread and Bolts!
Come and see us.  Farmer's Wife is Next week
