2013 Blogger's Quilt Festival- Bed Quilt

I'm not at Spring Market even though it is so close in Portland, Oregon.  I'm seeing lots of pictures posted via Facebook.  Thankful for another chance to share with the Blogger's Quilt Festival online with Amy's Creative Side. I'm entering my most recent Quilt in the BED Quilt Category HERE

 "Butterflies in Flight"
Quilt Stats:
Size: KING
Pieced and quilted by Lynn Wilson January 2013- March 2013
Pattern name: "A & C with Pinwheel Frames"
Pattern Designer: Marti Michell
Fabrics: Kona Bay "Butterfly Carnival"
Photo by Mr Kona Bay- Doug
BIG THANKS!
Inspriration came from this stack of fabrics by Kona Bay
The Pattern came from a Block of the Month class that we have been running at Thread and Bolts this year with Marti Michell, using her Perfect Patchwork Templates.

Most of the construction of this quilt happened in the 2 weeks prior to Spring Trends this year.
When the fliers came out and we saw that Marti was going to be there there was some major hustle going on at the Thread and Bolts Studio. Many hours were spent cutting and auditioning fabrics for each block.
The center of each block was 'Fussy-cut'  from the Butterfly fabric.
There were only 6 fabrics used.  The pattern gives directions for 12.
6.5" Butterfly Borders on and ready to be quilted.
The quilt arrived at EE Schencks just in time for photography.

Enjoy the Blogger's Quilt Festival.  I hope you will consider this quilt for a Nomination and Vote.

Design Wall Monday- February 25, 2013

Thread and Bolts Quilting has been very busy since last week's Block of the Month M & M Quilter's group came.  Many parts and pieces of the Marti Michell "U-Taupia" Quilt are in process.
There are 56 or more of these needed for one of the borders. Lynn made a few in the half-sized...opps!  They will make a nice edge on the pillowcases that will go with this quilt.

We tried different Alternate solid blocks and setting triangles with the pieced blocks on the wall.  The blue is nice but it just didn't make these Jewel-toned blocks pop. We settled on the dark purple. You can see a little of the border fabrics being tested up there too.

A few tiny Pinwheel blocks and two color sashings were made and the Block with the BLUE around the center square got fixed too. The 4 corner Blocks will be the same block. Lynn is adding 4 extras to make this quilt fit her bed -King sized.  The fabrics are mostly "Butterfly Carnival" from Kona Bay. This is just a sneak peek of the quilt. It is well on the way to being a Flimsy, ready to be quilted with Butterflies.

Hopefully by this time next week it will be on it's way to the Spring Trade Show @ Trends in Portland.
Both Marti Michell and Doug, aka: Mr. Kona Bay will be there and won't they be surprised when they see it hanging up in the Warehouse? We'll post the Finished Quilt next week.

Design Wall Monday September 17, 2012

There was more progress made on the Farmer's Wife Quilt.  Sewing the cornerstone and 2 sashings on each block like this makes it EASY to assemble. Tuesday and Wednesday are the Farmer's Wife Days at Thread and Bolts.  Won't they be surprised to see this hanging on the wall in the shop?!!
Only two more months of this class.

We will start a new Block of the Month in January.  Maybe TWO Blocks of the Month.  12" blocks this time.   There are new Marti Michell Blocks of the Month ready to go.  Using the same Templates we already have from making the Farmer's Wife.

Below is the D9P made from the 3.5" Y2K Swaps with Orange as the constant. This Quilt is for Michelle.
Kimmy and Tammi sorted them and matched them up when we were still sewing in the basement 6 years or so ago.  The quilt top was found when she was searching for the BOX of "Bears Need Homes, Too" fabrics a few weeks ago.  A couple of borders and it will be ready for Quilting.  It looks good on the Long Arm.

You can Link up with Judy Laquidara HERE. Lots to see on Design Wall Monday.

Sneak Peek- Farmer's Wife Blocks

These are the first 10 Blocks of the FARMER'S Wife Quilt.
Mary C. came out to cut out her blocks in preparation for the Small Groups meetings at Thread and Bolts next week. After Quilt Guild we now have 18 Quilter's who want to make this fun quilt. More Marti Michell templates and Farmer's Wife Books are on order and should be delivered by Monday, UPS and FED EX are working hard for us.

These are all fairly easy Blocks based on the 9-patch so they can be assembled quickly. Mary cut them out with the Marti Michell Templates and couldn't go to sleep Wednesday night until they were all sewn. Lynn and Mary C. have a few TIPS and tricks to making it easier to follow the book using Marti Michell's Perfect Patchwork Templates.

They are Top to Bottom L-R:
#9-Box, #16-Calico Puzzle, #21-Contrary Wife, #23-Country Farm, #41-Friendship Star, #69-Practical Orchard, #70-Prairie Queen, #72 Railroad, #81-Snowball, and #84 Spool.

Mary C. will have her camera ready on Tuesday to show some of the other color ways that these blocks/quilt will be made in.
